Passing of Jaime Oliva Reyes

The Latin American Security Association (ALAS) regrets to advise the passing of Jaime Oliva Reyes. Jaime was the President of ALAS Mexico and was a great association leader within the security industry. This has been a great loss to the ALAS community as he was responsible for starting and consolidating the ALAS presence in Mexico. We will miss him as a Leader, Businessman and Mentor.

ALAS would like to send our deepest condolences to the Oliva Garduño family during these difficult times.

Gala Dinner
The ALAS 10th Anniversary gala dinner was a great success. It was held in Mexico City at the Crown Plaza hotel sponsored by Anixter, ATI Access Control, Bosch Security Systems, DSC, GE Security, HID, Lenel Systems, TAC, Security Industry Association, Expo Seguridad México and Ventas de Seguridad. ALAS hosted this evening to thank the corporate and international members for their support during the past 10 years. During the evening, recognition was given to people who are key in the positioning of ALAS: Marc Mineau, George Fletcher, DMF Consulting; Pedro Duarte, GE Security; Humberto de La Vega, HID Corporation; Carlos Guzmán, ALAS; Richard Chace, Security Industry Association; and Andrea Ferrando, ALAS. Also, the magazine Ventas de Seguridad and its director Max Jaramillo, were thanked for their support as official ALAS publication. ALAS thanks everyone who supported this event.

ALAS in Expo Seguridad México e ISC Brasil 2007

ALAS was present at two of the most important industry fairs in the electronic security industry of Latin America. From April 24 - 26, ALAS actively participated in the 5th edition of Expo Seguridad México, which is the main one in Mexico and from May 2 - 4 attended the second edition of ISC Brazil. During these two expos, ALAS hosted Alarm & CCTV courses and also promoted to companies who were interested in joining the Association. ALAS would like to thank the organizers of both of these events for the opportunity to work with the two main fairs of electronic security in Mexico, Expo Seguridad México and Brazil, ISC Brasil.

The 6th edition of the above South American expo will take place from July 4 –6 in La Rural, Predio Ferial, in Buenos Aires. MÉXICO

Mission 500 raises US $36.000 in their official Mexican launch
Mission 500 is an important non profit initiative that concentrates in the security industry & raised an amazing US $36.000 during their official launch in Mexico City. The objective of Mission 500 is to sponsor 500 children in need via the sponsorship of World Vision. 100 % of the finds goes directly to World Vision. This organization provides food, clothing and education for those I need. Mission 500 was launched in Mexico during the dinner gala for ALAS’ 10th Anniversary. During this gala, the organizers of Expo Seguridad gave the World Vision representative a check for US $5.000 from the fair profit to help with Mexican street children. In addition, Samsung GVI donated a 42" Plasma TV, which was raffled among visitors to the venue and raised US $1,100.  Andrea Ferrando, of Expo Seguridad México and public relation coordinator of Mission 500, said "there are more than 50 million people in Mexico who live in poverty; 10 million of those are children who live on the streets under terrible conditions”. It is our duty as a company who does business in Mexico to raise public awareness and to contribute as much as possible to find a solution”.  Alan Forman, president of Altronix asked the audience to sponsor 30 children and announced that his company would donate US $10,000. The audience responded and after donating enough for 22 children, Rodolfo Montes, from Inalarm, donated the balance to sponsor 8 children in order to meet the goal.  Richard Chace, executive director of SIA donated US $5,000 as did George Fletcher, from DMF Consulting, which ended in the total of US $36,000. Anixter in Expo Seguridad Mexico

Great success at Expo Seguridad Mexico

Expo Seguridad México 2007 took place in during a time where government and the private sector are trying to improve security in the country. More than 200 people from different government sectors came looking for security solutions, which concerns all of us. Determined to offer a quality program, Expo Seguridad México 2007, had more than 50 specialists lecture on different topics among others Urban Security: Beyond the change of  paradigms” lectured by Alan Bell, Internacional terrorist expert ; Bud Wulforst, Presidente of  A1 Security in Reno, USA with “Technology and legal aspects in Central Monitoring Stations”; Ugolino Duran, Fire Director México & CAC, GE Security with  “Truly Intelligent Fire Detection Systems”, José González de Anixter “IP Convergence in the Security World" & Manuel Zamudio de Axis with  “Network Video…Beyond Technological Convergence”. In the exhibition area 185 companies offered security solutions focusing on different sectors, personal security, company & government. Pavillions such as Anixter’s “Convergence”  and Schneider Electric’s “Energy Efficiency”. Also, Pelco’s pavilion with "Pelco Secure City", security via video. For the first time, Expo Seguridad México 2007 gave 4 recognition awards to best corporate image, best stand, best service (client focused) and innovative product. These were chosen by a group of people who are experts in the technology, business and security.
